TruGenX recommends that consumers and business owners seek licensed medical professionals who are using FDA approved COVID-19 testing kits. Recently the FBI published an article warning the general public of COVID-19 related products and services that were not approved by the FDA. This alert has included counterfeit testing kits, treatments, and preventative supplements.
COVID-19 Testing Issues
The global pandemic has given birth to a variety of COVID-19 solutions that have not been tested or approved by the CDC or FDA. AARP noted in a recent article that there has been a series of fraudulent drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites popping up across the country. The operators of the sites have found a way to rob patients of money and social security information. These sites have also been labeled as a possible threat to spread the virus because they are filled with symptomatic people who are not receiving proper care. It is recommended that patients are only tested for COVID-19 by a licensed medical professional. The FBI has also warned individuals to be aware of companies that are claiming to sell tests directly to individuals or businesses. Many businesses and workers have reported receiving unsolicited emails and calls from these companies that offer “at-home testing”. These cons are designed to capture confidential Medicare or Medicaid information. Another common swindle that has been reported by individuals is the receipt of emails stating that either an employer or the government is mandating tests. Currently, there are no mandates for testing by any government agency. The CDC has recommended seeking testing when a person is exhibiting symptoms, considered to be at high risk, or has come in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. The FBI is also warning patients about similar claims alerting the public to counterfeit COVID-19 treatments and preventative supplements. It is important to note that to date there are no approved cures or vaccinations for COVID-19. The good news is that the global healthcare community is working to develop monumental treatments and vaccinations. Clinical trials will take time to reveal just how effective these new treatments and vaccinations really are. Until these measures are approved by the World Health Organization the public should be leery of any solicitations offering these services.
