Every Fall season a new challenge is presented in medicine. Patients are wondering, “Do I have a cold or do I have the flu?”. The symptoms are so similar that it is very difficult for an untrained person to figure out. Even a Doctor is making an educated guess when prescribing a medication based on symptoms alone. This dilemma has lead to a number of misdiagnosed cases causing the patient to live with the illness longer than necessary.
Respiratory Illness SymptomsWhen we get sick not all of the symptoms are caused by the illness. A good example is how our body will naturally raise our temperature to fight the pathogen BUT cause a fever. This natural response is caused by a few diseases which makes it difficult for Doctors to pinpoint which pathogen is at play. Additional respiratory symptoms include:
- Coughing or wheezing
- Build up of mucus causing runny or stuffy noses
- Watery eyes
- Hot & cold flashes
